“The Shelter Is Hoping For Nothing Short Of A Christmas Miracle”.

Societat Protectora d'animals de Catalunya is a shelter in Torredembarra, Spain, that needs urgent assistance. It opened 25 years ago, with an owner — who loves animals wholeheartedly — wanting to give homeless pets a place they could call home. The shelter typically houses 1,000+ dogs and cats a year.

The cost of providing care, for this many pups and fur-balls is no simple task. This is especially the case with just six employees. Their daily duties include feeding, bathing, cleaning the pens and walking the dogs.

The shelter has survived for years through public donations. Funding has since been scarce with the recent pandemic. After much effort, the shelter has still not received any financial support from their local city hall or the Spanish government.

How Can You Help?

Societat Protectora d'animals de Catalunya needs financial assistance to buy their current leaseholds. This requires a purchase down payment of €120,000 euros to purchase the property and continue housing their dogs and cats. The leasing of the property will expire on December 31, and the bank gave the shelter two options: purchase the existing land/shelter or shut it down.

How Much Has Been Raised So Far?

The shelter has been able to raise €20,000 and they are still hopeful they can raise the remaining donations. Time is running out though they have until December 31. The shelter is hoping for nothing short of a Christmas miracle.

They realize it will not be any simple task and are working on a back-up plan at a temporary housing facility, if they cannot reach their goal. All proceeds raised over the next two months will go to either setting up the new shelter at a smaller location, or, towards the purchase deposit of their existing facility.

The purchase will provide long term stability for the shelter.

Workers are also raising awareness locally for people to urgently adopt. So far, over 200 dogs have been adopted.

Any donation counts in this critical time.

Donations can be made in the name of Societat Protectora d'animals de Catalunya. The organization is registered as a non-profit animal shelter.
